Since 2003, Clarksville’s Rivers & Spires Festival has been promoting the arts and local artists, a key piece of the Festival mission. The art scene at Rivers & Spires is complete with crafts, songwriters, public art pieces and exhibitions. Come see the local flair of the Festival as well as the Historic Downtown businesses that showcase Clarksville creative side.
See more about the specific events at the Festival:
Arts Galore - A crafter’s paradise with pieces ranging from woodworking to photography, ceramics and paintings. Recently, artists selling jewelry, clothing, accessories, etc have had a strong presence inside the Arts Galore area as well. You can see the list of approved vendors on the Arts Galore page as they become available.
Songwriters – Songwriters take the stage in several areas of the Festival. The popular Last Band Standing competition, hosted by Z97.5, brings rock bands to the streets of the Festival in a Battle of the Bands competition. A songwriters serach encourages local music writers to come and perform in front of a live audience as well as a panel of judges. Local performance artists are included in the overall Festival line-up as well, gracing the stage at various times throughout the weekend.
Public Art – Throughout downtown public art displays add that extra something to the city streets. Bronze statues of famous Clarksvillians, murals and decorative fountains and monuments all pay tribute to key pieces of Clarksville’s history. For more information on the public art, pick up a Walk or Drive brochure at the Clarksville Welcome Center (180 Holiday Drive) before making your way to the Festival streets.
US Bank Exhibition - US Bank and Austin Peay State University will host the US Bank Art Exhibition in the weeks leading up to the Festival. Local artists, including University students will enter their pieces in the hopes of winning either a cash prize or scholarship money. More information about the exhibition can be found here.
